Nottingham Strokeability grew out out of a similar scheme that runs in Birmingham and which was presented, in April 2005, to an audience of Nottinghamshire health professionals and @astroke members at Highbury hospital. The scheme, adapted from a scheme for heart patients by Maggie Pickard in Birmingham and supported and developed for Nottinghamshire by (the late) Cheryl Jackson (Consultant Nurse, Nottingham), brings together stroke survivors and a trained therapist for a couple of hours each week of 'appropriate gentle exercise', and has proved very beneficial, physically and mentally, for all concerned. |
