Caregiver Help and Support

"It’s not a job you apply for. Chances are, if you're already employed, you don’t need or want another job, much less this one. Usually you have no prior experience, you don’t know the language, you don’t have the proper tools to do it, the pay isn’t compensatory to the task, it may come at a time in your life when you don’t have the energy required to do the job well, you may be expected to do it without giving up all the other jobs you may have, but there IS job security – as it may last for ever."
(from the Stroke Caregivers Handbook)

  • The "Stroke Caregivers Handbook", subtitled: "What do I do and How do I do it", was originated, compiled and written by Steve Mallory and the 'Stroke Network Inc' team, who have kindly allowed us to link to it.
The Handbook deals with stroke (from the first moments, through treatment, what to expect, questions to ask, notes to take, preparing for survivor coming home etc., etc.,) from the Carer's point of view.

The UK version is now available.
To go to the website to read it and/or download it click HERE.
The UK version is about half way down the page, just below the USA version.

  • Carers UK is the National Organisation for Carers. "Carers provide unpaid care by looking after an ill, frail or disabled family member, friend or partner."
Their website (click HERE) has a guide for (new) carers, details of local 'Carer support groups', and lots more too.
